Utilities

Ameren Missouri is the electricity provider for the City of Washington.  In 2022, it was awarded the J.D. Power Award for ranking highest in overall customer satisfaction among large Midwest utilities for business electric service.

Natural gas for homes and businesses in the City of Washington is provided by Spire Inc.  In 2024, the gas company completed an $8.5 million expansion project to increase efficiency and capacity in the Oldenburg Industrial Park.

The city's Water Department provides water service for both businesses and residents.  The water system consists of nine (9) deep wells controlled by a state-of-the-art supervisory control and data acquisition system with the capability of producing 6.0 million gallons of water per day.

The city's Sewer Department manages the sewer system, including the Wastewater Treatment Plant, which has a capacity of 4.0 million gallons per day. Commercial and industrial customers are billed based on actual or estimated usage, determined by monthly or quarterly water meter readings or metered sewer flow.
